This Week in Pickleball
Hello Pickleball Family!
We’ve officially hit the ground running!
Remember when we were kids and they taught us STOP, DROP & ROLL?
Well, I’m bringing it back — with a small Trilogy adjustment:
STOP… at the STOP SIGNS.
You can skip the dropping and rolling part.
Seriously, people. Stop means STOP. Not slow down, glance around, and roll through because you’re late for pickleball. The courts will still be there. Let’s keep everyone in our community safe.
Now that my public service announcement is out of the way…
Niko has expressed some concern that he hasn’t been included enough in club activities lately. I explained that he’s been a little busy writing books about himself, so he’ll have to work pickleball into his schedule. Apparently fame is exhausting.
Okay, let’s get into this week’s update because WE HAVE A LOT GOING ON!
HI-LO SPLIT — SOLD OUT!
Well, you guys certainly didn’t waste any time!
Our Hi-Lo Split sold out within MINUTES of registration opening!
Apparently when we say registration opens at 10:00 AM, some of you are sitting at your computer at 9:59 with your finger hovering over the button. I’m impressed. Slightly concerned…but impressed.
If you didn’t get in, DON’T GIVE UP!
There is still time to get your name on the waitlist. Things happen, schedules change, people drop out, and spots can open up — so make sure you get yourself on there.
And judging by how quickly this one filled up, I think it’s safe to say pickleball season has officially begun!
CO-ED DAY DINKERS STARTS TODAY!
Mondays & Saturdays | 10:00–11:30 AM | Upper Courts
TODAY is the first day of Co-Ed Day Dinkers, and Cindy Sides is leading the way!
Whether you’re a seasoned player, newer to the game, or one of those people who plays great one day and the next day wonders if you’ve ever held a paddle before — this is for you.
Cindy will be out there keeping everyone moving, mixing things up and making sure you have a good time. So come out, meet some new people, play some pickleball and have some fun.
There may be dinking. There will be laughing. There will probably be questionable line calls.
Cindy, they’re all yours!
THE PADDLE PARTY IS BACK!
Tonight | 6:00 PM
You’ve been waiting for it, and Paddle Party is BACK!
Holly and Jill are leading the charge, so come out tonight at 6:00 PM for pickleball, laughs, good music and a fun night on the courts.
New to pickleball? Come out.
Been playing forever? Come out.
Just want to socialize, listen to music and hit a ball around? Come out!
There is absolutely no good reason to sit home tonight. Well, unless you’re Niko. He apparently has a publishing deadline.
INTRO TO PICKLEBALL IS BACK!
Starting Wednesday, October 14th | 6:00 PM & Thursday, October 15th | 10:00 AM
Upper Courts
Have you been wanting to learn how to play but aren’t quite ready to jump into regular play?
Jimmy Zimmer is leading the way, and he’ll get you started with the basics, teach you how the game works, and help get you comfortable on the court.
This is an easy, relaxed way to introduce yourself to pickleball. No intimidation. No pressure. And absolutely no expectation that you already know what you’re doing — that would kind of defeat the purpose.
Jimmy will teach you the basics, and before you know it, you’ll be talking about dinks, drops and third shots like the rest of us.
And then it happens… you buy your first paddle.
Then another paddle.
Then you start planning your day around pickleball.
Jimmy, what have you done?
ROUND ROBINS ARE BACK!
Recreational Round Robin
Starting Tuesday, October 13th
Sign-in: 8:20–8:50 AM
Play begins: 9:00 AM
Intermediate/Advanced Round Robin
Starting Wednesday, October 14th
Sign-in: 8:20–8:50 AM
Play begins: 9:00 AM
Please get there during the sign-in window so we can get everyone organized and start on time.
And yes, 8:50 means 8:50. Not 8:57 while running across the parking lot yelling, “WAIT FOR ME!”
NOVICE, BEGINNER & NEW MEMBER ROUND ROBIN
2nd & 4th Tuesday of Every Month | Starts October 13th
Sign-In: 10:45 AM | Play: 11:00 AM
New to pickleball?
Still trying to figure out where you’re supposed to stand?
Occasionally forget the score before the next serve?
Have absolutely NO idea why everyone keeps yelling “GET TO THE KITCHEN!” when there isn’t a kitchen anywhere in sight?
You’ve found your people.
Our Novice, Beginner & New Member Round Robin is specifically designed for new members, beginners, inexperienced players, and anyone who wants to build a little more confidence before jumping into Open Play and our Club events.
Here’s how it works:
Six full games
Different partners and opponents
Friendly tips, instruction and encouragement at each court
No drills — you’re actually playing pickleball!
Learn as you play in a comfortable, supportive environment
Get more comfortable with scoring, positioning, serving and the flow of the game
Designed to help get you ready for Open Play and Club-organized events
Sign-in begins at 10:45 AM
Play begins at 11:00 AM
And please don’t worry about making mistakes. That’s the whole point.
Hit the ball into the net? We’ve all done it.
Forget the score? Happens every day.
Stand in the wrong place? Someone will move you.
Call the kitchen the kitchen? Finally, something that actually makes sense.
Nobody arrives knowing everything.
Except apparently that one person who bought a paddle yesterday, watched three YouTube videos, and is now ready to critique everybody’s serve.
Come out, learn, laugh, play six games and meet some new people. Before you know it, you’ll be correcting someone else’s score just like the rest of us.
LET’S TALK CLUB DUES
The good news: your Pickleball Club dues are staying at $40 this year!
Our dues help pay for prizes, balls, equipment, snacks, drinks, food at meetings, events and all the other things that magically appear throughout the season.
If you’d like to avoid the long registration line at our November 3rd Transition Meeting, you can pay your dues now.
Zelle: PoloClubpickleball@gmail.com
VENMO HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!
We’re no longer accepting Venmo because they’ve decided to charge us a service fee.
It’s not us, Venmo. It’s definitely you.
Zelle is still our friend!
Prefer to pay by check or cash? No problem! You’ll just need to track down our Treasurer, Laurie McKinley, at the courts. Laurie has the official receipt book and will gladly take your money.
Think of it as a little pickleball scavenger hunt: Find Laurie. Pay Laurie. Get a receipt. Done.
And please don’t just hand $40 to some random person holding a paddle and tell them it’s for Wendy.
Pay early, sign in at the registration table and off you go on November 3rd looking very organized and impressive. We’ll all be jealous.
SAVE THE DATE — TRANSITION MEETING
Tuesday, November 3rd | 5:00 PM, Registration starts at 4:15 PM
2Palms Room
After the meeting, we’ll head downstairs to the patio for dinner!
Guests are absolutely welcome to attend! The cost for a guest is $20 per meeting.
But before you sign your guest up, you may want to consider just having them join the Pickleball Club for $40 for the entire year.
Here comes Wendy Math:
One meeting as a guest = $20
Two meetings = $40
All three meetings this year = $60
Club membership for the entire year = $40
I was never a math teacher, but even I can figure this one out.
So if your guest plans on coming to more than one meeting — or wants to participate in everything else the club has going on — you might want to save the $20 and just make them one of us.
And because apparently feeding everyone dinner isn’t enough, we need dessert too.
We’re looking for approximately 10 people to bring a dessert to share.
If you’d like to bring one, please respond to this email and let me know.
And yes, I said dessert — not desert. We already have plenty of that outside.
WE NEED A FEW GOOD VOLUNTEERS!
We have a LOT planned this season, and as much as I would like to pretend I can do everything myself, apparently that is frowned upon.
We’re looking for members who would be willing to help out with events, tournaments, setup, check-in, and all the other little things that make our club events happen.
You do NOT have to volunteer for everything. Even helping with one event makes a difference.
And I promise, volunteering does not mean you’ve accidentally signed a lifetime contract with the Pickleball Club. We will let you go home eventually.
If you’d like to help, please respond to this email and let me know. We’d love to have you!
WHERE ARE THE VIDEOS, WENDY?
I know. I know.
For everyone who has been asking, the videos are coming!
I’ve listened to what our members want, and this season I’m going to do both video AND print updates.
So you have options:
Watch me.
Read me.
Or, if you just can’t get enough of me, do both.
That’s it for now!
We have a great season ahead of us, and we’re just getting started. Come out, get involved, meet some new people and HAVE FUN. That’s what this club is all about.
And remember…
STOP at the stop signs.
DROP what you’re doing and come play pickleball.
ROLL on over to the courts.
Okay, apparently I didn’t completely get rid of the drop-and-roll part.
Niko and I are OUT!
See you on the courts!
